“If I could sum up why I’m committed to the HR Girlfriends community it would come down to because we are ‘….in this together.'”

~Sana’ Rasul, Chief Girlfriend

Affirmation: The words of others only build up my self-esteem.

I choose to remain completely oblivious to what others think of me because I am perfectly content with myself. I live my life for me. I choose to make decisions and take actions that support my success. I deserve happiness and I am confident in my ability to achieve great things.

I choose to focus on the positive. I am happy with my appearance, economic status, professional abilities, and personality. Nothing any stranger or acquaintance says about me can make me feel any different about myself.

I continually remind myself that the honest criticism of others is meant for my growth and instruction. I learn what I can from this criticism and quickly discard the rest.

When someone insults me, I realize it usually comes from their own lack of self-esteem or because they are intimidated by my confidence. Their words have the opposite effect than intended because they remind me of my own strength in comparison to theirs. I can gracefully fend off their insults.

I readily and gratefully receive compliments. I appreciate when others notice my strengths and abilities. Yet, I avoid depending on the compliments of others to determine my own self-esteem.

Today, I choose to live a confident life regardless of what others say about me. Life is too short to conform to what other people think I should be. I am me, and I am happy with the person I am becoming each and every day.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Do I deal with insults gracefully or aggressively?
2. Do I depend on the compliments of others for my self-esteem?
3. What are my strengths?
