“If I could sum up why I’m committed to the HR Girlfriends community it would come down to because we are ‘….in this together.'”

~Sana’ Rasul, Chief Girlfriend

Affirmation: I am upfront about what I deserve

The loudest voice in support of me is my own. It is my responsibility to speak up for myself.

Whenever I am negotiating for a new job, I confidently state my expectations. It is only fair to evaluate my worth based on my positive and meaningful experiences. The attributes that I take to a new job have an assessed value.

Instead of shying away from the topic of compensation, I politely outline what my expectations are. I know that confidence is an impressive attribute.

I take the same approach with my personal relationships. By my actions, I show my partner how I expect to be treated. Although I am willing to compromise, I stand firm in my belief that I deserve to be respected.

Whenever someone is disrespectful to me, I make it known that I am offended. Doing it immediately prevents such situations from happening again.

Setting the tone for what I look forward to is a way to avoid misunderstandings. The greatest path to successful collaboration is through clarity. When I am clear about my feelings, it removes any uncertainty.

My money is important to me, so I avoid wasting it. Whenever I choose to pay for a service, I expect the quality that my money buys. I let it be known when I am dissatisfied about something.

Today, I defend myself against unfair treatment. I am committed to using my voice in my defense. I deserve to be treated fairly.

Self-Reflection Questions:
1. How do I define fair treatment in the workplace?
2. How do I approach a discussion about a pay raise?
3. How easy is it for me to speak up for myself when I feel intimidated?
